When in Doubt, Use Rice

Rainy days are always hard, indoor activities at home can get old quickly. No the answer is not more toys. Many people make this mistake and think "they have so many toys, how can they be bored". Children can get overwhelmed with too many options. They can have a room jammed packed with toys and will not know what they can play with.

Less is more!

While a rotation is always great. Putting some in storage and switching the ones that are out to play with every so often. Sometimes its good to shake things up a little. Sometimes its fun to get messy, but not too messy!

Have you ever played with rainbow rice?!

It is SO MUCH FUN! For us and of course for the kids. You can have fun with them coloring it or just do it while they are asleep and surprise them with it one rainy day after they are done playing in mud!

All you need is vinegar, food coloring, and some ziploc bags! Grab some rice, a few drops of vinegar and food coloring and shake it UP UP UP! Spread it out on a cookie sheet and bake a little on low to get it dry quickly. That's it!

The kids will spend forever playing with it! Especially if you add accessories like a tea set, tiny cooking utensils, tools to work on those fine motor skills, mini construction trucks, small cars, small figurines, ect. The possibilities are endless!
